Scottish Financial Times - Broughton Removals expands and rebrands thanks to RBS funding package10th of July, 2023
Edinburgh-based family business Broughton Removals has expanded and rebranded in its 50th year, thanks to a funding package from Royal Bank of Scotland.
The removals and storage company, founded by Sonny Munro in 1970, has recruited three new staff members to bolster its loyal team - most of whom have been with the business for decades.
Mr Munro’s daughter Jo recently took over as director of the business, which is one of the longest-running removal services in Scotland.
Jo is one of only a handful of women at director level in the UK removals industry, and her goal has been to modernise the business, started by her father, by introducing new IT systems and tech staff, whilst investing in the training of existing team members.
The funding from Royal Bank of Scotland will allow Broughton Removals to support one of its youngest staff members Mitchell Thorburn, through his HGV licence training.
Mr Thorburn, who has been with the company since leaving school, was also put through his driving test with the company and is testament to Broughton Removal’s commitment to staff learning and development.
Broughton Removals has also used the funds to increase the capacity of their storage facility in Leith by more than half, from 500 to 800 containers, and has rebranded in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Jo Munro, director at Broughton Removals, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to bring more people into our team at such an exciting time – our 50th birthday year. We’ve always invested in staff training and development, and now we can ramp this up a notch and expand further. Both our business and our family are lifelong Royal Bank of Scotland customers, and Denis and the team have really worked as an extension of our operation for the past five decades.”
Denis Curran, relationship manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, added: “We’ve been with Broughton Removals since the beginning, and it’s been great to help them grow from strength to strength over the years. Jo has come into the business with fantastic ideas, and I’m looking forward to seeing where she takes it next.”
